Almus drug packaging

The design of drug packaging has a huge role to play in reducing medication errors - packs needs to present their critical information clearly and be visually distinctive from other packs they are stored and dispensed with.

There's a nice article here on the Design Council site looking at the development of Almus's new packaging.

The article lists four key design points:

  • Assumptions shouldn't be made about the direction of a design just because it's always been done that way
  • The needs of the target market must be paramount and these should be discovered using market research
  • The intelligent use of design can be used to prevent human error
  • Colour can be used to make distinguishing between different types of packing easier and draw attention to vital pieces of information
