The therapeutic benefits of design
Seven principles for life-enhancing design (471Kb PDF)
I was just thinking around the therapeutic effects of design and came across this article on the work of Swedish architect Erik Asmussen. Asmussen was interested in the ideas of philosopher Rudolf Steiner, and tried to introduce a spiritual dimension into his buildings as well as efficient functionality. He based his design work around seven key principles: unity of form and function, contrasting elements, metamorphosis, harmony with nature, dynamic form, colour perspective and spatial equilibrium.
It would be interesting to see how these values could be mapped to graphic design; developing a more human and organic dimension in our work. Could this be the end of the grid?
There's another article on Asmussen here.
